While most Malbecs are made in the modern Argentinian style, we’ve taken ours back to classic, old-world Bordeaux methods. We felt it was the best way to do justice to the amazing fruit we discovered in this tiny 1.5-acre low-yield vineyard on classic Napa soil.
The Kala 2014 Malbec is really fragrant on the nose with aromas of candied violet, lilac, fresh black raspberries, black cherries, purple fruits, and black currant. It is amazingly balanced considering the low alcohol of only 13%. The wine is matured for 26 months in 33% new French oak, which is well integrated and it shows in the background notes of mocha and roasted coffee. The finish is long with a chalky, stone-y minerality and further notes of violet, lilac, and black raspberry. This cellar-worthy vintage can keep for 20 years, allowing its chewy, ripe tannins to soften into a sublime drinking experience.
